WEBSep 26, 2015 · The silver metallic residue is the thermal paste, it is supposed to be there, you need to wipe it off with 99% rubbing alcohol, then either buy a new tube of thermal paste for ~$4-6 as you can't reapply it, or buy a good cpu cooler like the 212 evo for ~$25.
