WEBFeb 18, 2021 · There are NO inserts for double-sided fireplaces, per se, but I have installed back-to-back inserts in a double-sided fireplace. It's twice as much money, but each is independent from the other. It allows for heat in the room where the fireplace opening is. The other option is to seal off one side & put an insert in the other.

WEBOct 29, 2021 · We had a similar layout. Contractor bid on opening up the other side for a double sided gas fireplace. It was really expensive. Over $10k. It’s cheaper to install an insert and another wood stove. There is a thread on here Where a Jotul stove was out in a double sided fireplace. It’s not much to look at from the back but it’s not ugly.

Am imagining mine as a double sided ( we actually had a quote to convert to a double sided gas fireplace a few years ago.). I think it would keep the pass through character but one side isn’t going to have pretty flames.

We just added a screened porch to the fireplace wall and would like to turn our single sided wood burning fireplace into a double sided fireplace that can be used on the porch. Can this be done?
