We were just there in April. We (two couples) flew in from Mendoza, spent two nights at a hotel in Puerto Iguazu (Argentina), and then flew on to Buenos Aires. I don't know that you need more than one day to see the falls--even if you go to both sides--but it is really a full day, so two nights at a local hotel worked well. I would suggest a guide; ask your travel agent, or use Viator (they probably have a complete package from Rio). Ours was all arranged by our travel agent in the USA. We were met at the airport by our private guide, checked into the hotel and had the evening to relax and go out to dinner. The next morning we were up and out early with our guide and were at the Argentinian side right when it opened to beat the crowds at Garganta del Diablo. We crossed the border into Brazil for lunch and then spent the afternoon seeing the falls from that side and even did one of the speed boat rides (fun!). Our guide then took us to a dinner show at Refain--huge buffet and great songs, dancing, and costumes. Guide got us back over the border to our hotel. Next morning, he got us to the airport for the next leg of our journey. We really thought this was the perfect amount of time. If you want to go shopping in Paraguay, maybe at a half-day but I hear it's not so nice since the pandemic. Enjoy, you are about to see one of the most magnificent spots on the planet!
