The tour I took went to a dairy, carpentry shop and private home. There was hardly any walking at all, but we did stand for awhile at the dairy and carpenter shop while the operations were explained to us. The carpenter shop had an upstairs where we spent some time since that is where much of the work was done. The tour locations change though and would be good to check with the office to see if they know the plan the day you want to visit.

Thanks for your question! Amish View Inn & Suites (rates #1 hotel in Lancaster County on TripAdvisor) is right next door to us, along with Smokehouse BBQ & Brews. So you'd have lodging, tours and food all on the same property, and right in the middle of the countryside. If you are looking to stay on an Amish property, then I agree with Missy's suggestion.

October is ok, but the best time to go is around Christmas, the shows are great and there's so much to do and see with kids. It's magical, we go every year!
