Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing to stop the city of Austin from covering travel expenses for residents who seek abortions out of state. In a lawsuit filed Friday, Paxton argued that the Texas Constitution prohibits gifts without a public benefit.

The city has appropriated $400,000 to help residents travel out of state for abortions. This is the second lawsuit targeting the fund.

The state's lawsuit against Austin escalates Paxton's campaign against terminations of pregnancy both inside and outside of Texas' bounds.

One man was killed and a person has been detained following a shooting at an H-E-B in Northeast Austin, police said Friday night. Officer Leah Ratliff said at a news conference shortly before 9 p.m. that officers initially were sent to the grocery store at 500 W.

A man shot at a North Austin H-E-B has died at the hospital, and the investigation into the shooting is going, says the Austin Police Department.
