World leaders gather in Rio de Janeiro for the G20 summit, tackling global issues like climate change, poverty, and geopolitical tensions.

President Joe Biden was noticeably absent when leaders at the G20 Summit in Brazil gathered for a group photo.

Opening their annual summit in Rio de Janeiro on Monday, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said the impact of climate change was evident all over the world and needed to be addressed urgently.

Leaders from the Group of 20 major economies on Monday issued a joint statement highlighting the suffering caused by conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine, while calling for cooperation on climate change, poverty reduction and tax policy.

The G20 summit currently holding in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has agreed on a global alliance to fight hunger and bring poverty to an end. The leaders took the decision on Monday, during the opening session of the 19th Heads of State and Government Summit of the Group of 20 (G20) in Brazil.
