Songs from Adele, Green Day, R.E.M., Bob Dylan and others have been blocked by YouTube in a legal dispute with SESAC.

The blocks didn't affect all of these artists songs, but when users clicked to listen to some of them — like "Set Fire to the Rain" by Adele — they instead were met with a message that reads, "This video contains content from SESAC.

Many hit songs are missing from YouTube and YouTube Music as it negotiates a new deal with the performing rights organization SESAC.

If you go to YouTube right now and search for the video for Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” it’s very likely that you won’t see footage of a power trio combining angst with distorted guitars. Instead,

Songs by Adele, Kendrick Lamar, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Green Day and Mariah Carey, among others, are currently unavailable on YouTube due to a contract dispute between the platform and SESAC, a performing rights organization.
