A 44-year-old Pontiac man died Saturday after he was hit by an Amtrak train in Royal Oak, officials said. Police said they along with paramedics were called at about 9:17 a.m. Saturday to the area of Sixth and Center streets for a report of a train striking a pedestrian.

Police said the man apparently disregarded crossing signals and was trying to run across the tracks as the train approached.
