The HMS Trooper, a 275-foot-long submarine, was discovered in three separate sections as a result of the mine explosion. Costas Thoktaridis, the leader of Planet Blue, explained that the team could determine the explosion's severity based on the way the bow, middle, and stern sections were torn apart.

A World War Two submarine that disappeared mysteriously in 1943 with 64 crew members on board has been found off the coast of Greece. The HMS Trooper wreck, which had been deployed on a secret mission, was discovered 830 ft underwater on the Mediterranean seabed, by a private deep-sea research company Planet Blue.

The discovery of the wreck is hoped to finally bring some closure to the families of the submarine's crew, which included British submariners and Australian volunteer Lt. John Stuart Ryder, 22.
