CHENNAI, India (Reuters) - Production will remain suspended indefinitely at a Tata Electronics plant in southern India that makes Apple iPhone components after a fire at the weekend, officials said on Monday as they acted to prevent further damage from the blaze.

Indian authorities are set to begin a forensic investigation into the cause of a fire that broke out on Saturday at a Tata Electronics factory that makes components for Apple iPhones, a Tamil Nadu state official said on Sunday.

A fire broke out at Tata Electronics' iPhone manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, leading to an indefinite halt in operations just a day after the company announced plans to double its workforce at the facility.

India's Tata Power said on Monday that it will invest about 1.2 trillion rupees ($14.32 billion) in northern state Rajasthan over the next 10 years, with majority of the money in the renewable energy projects.

The company has successfully commissioned 1 GW of solar projects and 185 MW of wind projects in the state, along with 130 MW of rooftop solar installations.

The agreement was signed during the ongoing Rising Rajasthan Investor Meet in New Delhi and the proposed investment plan under it will be Rs 1.2 lakh crore.
