Cloudflare has disclosed that it mitigated a record-breaking distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack that peaked at 3.8 terabits per second (Tbps) and lasted 65 seconds.

The scale of the attack shows an ever-increasing amplification of distributed denial-of-service attempts, aided in part by the growing number of vulnerable or poorly secured IoT devices.

Internet infrastructure company Cloudflare says it has successfully mitigated the largest publicly recorded distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack to date, peaking at massive 3.8 terabits per second (Tbps). The month-long campaign targeted organisations in the financial services, telecommunications sectors and internet, Cloudflare disclosed.

The attack came from a botnet comprising hijacked Asus and MikroTik routers, along with DVRs and web servers, according to Cloudflare.
