    • For capsule products : This medication may have a bitter taste if chewed or crushed. Swallow medication whole.

    Side effects

    Tell your doctor right away if this unlikely but serious side effect occurs

    • Rectal bleeding

    A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include

    • Rash
    • Itching/swelling
    • Severe dizziness
    • Trouble breathing

    Other things to note

    • Stomach pain, diarrhea, or cramping may occur. Irritated throat may also occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
    • If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

    Precautions

    • Call doctor if change in bm lasts for 2 weeks
    • Drink plenty of fluids
    • Over use can cause bowel dependence
    • Only take longer than 7 days if directed by MD.
    • For capsule products : Do not use in an appendicitis attack. May take several days for full benefit. Not recommended for use in children.
    • For enema products : Read directions carefully before start of therapy. For rectal use only. Wash hands before and after using. Use once and discard any extra medicine.
    • For liquid products : Measure dose using a dosing spoon/cup/syringe.
