Mar 12, 2016 · Well, it's partially because I think the Sega Saturn is an underrated system, and also seeing the background behind 3DO Doom made me want to look into the other very well-known poor port of Doom. I wish there was a way to examine the source code for this port, but sadly hacking for the Sega Saturn isn't really well documented on the internet.

Sega Saturn Doom was released on the first of March 1997 and was published by GT Interactive The Saturn port of doom has a frame rate of about 25fps. It doesn't have coloured lighting but it does have translucency. Has more music tracks that you can hear on a CD player than the PSX (all the ambient tracks. Like 20 or so).

Mar 12, 2016 · Great read Mattfriel. I wasn't even aware of a Sega Saturn Doom port. The only console ports from back in the day I knew were the PS1 3DO SNES Jaguar and 32X ports. And IMO PS1 got the best console Doom port for the time, wasn't really until Doom 3 BFG edition when consoles finally got a 100% accurate port of the PC version.

Jan 2, 2021 · The chances of seeing just an enhanced version of an already released game would have been slim to none at that point, especially for the Saturn. Even GamePro's middling review for Saturn Doom pondered the idea of Final Doom getting a Saturn port, the closest we would have gotten to any sort of engine upgrade, which of course never happened.
