WEBJun 1, 2011 · ETA: the Viking has a carbon laminate blade. it's not stainless, unlike most Helle knives. I just gave it a try and it does strike a ferro rod on the spine (not so great) and the edge (much better), although why you wouldn't use the striker that comes with the ferro rod, I don't know. I've tried out Helle knives and was at my friend's workshop where he makes bows in Princeton Sunday and he was gluing a muledeer antler handle on to a Helle blade. They send you the kit blade as sharp as their finished knives and that is scary sharp, scandi grind.

WEBJul 2, 2020 · Like most Helle knives, both are made of triple laminated stainless steel and have a scandi grind. The blade stock is 0.109" thick and they are 3/4 tangs. The 3/4 tang is an interesting choice as it allows the handle to wrap underneath the tang providing better warmth in cold conditions.

WEBJul 28, 2014 · I've been self teaching and researching this sort of stuff on my own (types of tangs, grinds, coated, laminated, blued, manufacturers, bushcraft vs survival knives). I gots lots of questions. Unlike Moras, Helle tangs (at least on the Viking and Harding models) go all the way through the handle. Granted, they are rat tail tangs.

WEBMar 6, 2014 · Helle knives seem to be really good value with good craftsmanship - check their video on how they are still forged and made largely by hand. I have owned a few and are impressed by the quality. Good balance, nice sheath and good design for a knife that will be an outdoor tool rather than a weapon.

WEBApr 30, 2012 · The knives do have some differences. The grind being the main differences. I prefer the convex grind on the F1. I found the handle on the Helle to be more comfortable in my hand. The handle on the factory F1 is too small, and I have small hands. If you have large hands, the Helle might be the way to go.

WEBMay 27, 2015 · Ok here is the less stroud temagami made by Helle knives of Norway. They make this knife in two versions with triple laminated carbon and triple laminated stainless. This version is the triple laminated carbon steel . The scales as you can see are arctic curly birch and are some of the nicest and best feeling wooden knife handles I have EVER felt !

WEB313. Nov 15, 2014. #13. Ive got both a kellam wolverine and a helle viking. Both great knives which have dyed curly birch handles, traditional type leather sheaths and came extremely sharp. For me its hands down the kellam. I find the wolverine to be much more comfortable to hold with its coke bottle shaped handle.
