Feb 5, 2022 · Overheating issues are usually caused by build up on fins, or bad thermal paste, a stock CPU cooler under performing based on load or you messed with your voltage settings in bios. Can also be caused by ambient temp being too high and if using a stock cooler it just cannot dissipate the heat properly due to lack of already hot ambient air flow.

Oct 23, 2021 · Here are my numbers if they help: Baseline (game not running): 2% load, 40C. Game (no frame limit): 99% load, 78C. Game (60 frame limit): 42% load, 62C. For my card, even 78C isn't the end of the world (the spec is a max of 95), but its just a lot of wasted power and heat.

These overheating issues reminds me of the exact same issues ppl were having in GalCiv2 way back, ofcourse they blamed the game back then too and STO runs fine on my oc gtx260, never seen it go over 64°C (running an almost identical system as this threads resident fireman Sulda)

From what I've seen, its only Star Trek Online that causes this issue. I clean my fans regularly as part of routine PC maintainance and my cooling, while not rediculous, is perfectly sufficient for a vanilla GPU with no overclocking.

Apr 1, 2022 · If I leave it on cruise control for more than a few minutes, the engines get a high heat warning. Thankfully it doesn't appear to cause damage and break them like it didn't right after the component change, but the engines overheating message will still pop up.

To be fair, overheating is always a problem with the PC/laptop, not a game. GPU's are designed to work at 100% without issue, for at least hours on end, if it's getting "too hot" then the issue is with insufficient cooling inside the PC/laptop.
