Jun 27, 2007 · The problem is only the background appears on the Monitor when I plug it in (ya know, the blue wavy thing). Sometimes I get the mouse cursor, but no desktop or dock. The macbook recognizes that there is an external monitor, but it doesn't do anything about it.

All my files that are on the desktop are not showing, the menu bar and dock are gone. If I press any key, I get a sound but nothing else happens.

Jan 12, 2021 · You can set it by going to the Apple Menu ( ) > System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver. There you should get two windows and be able to select the background you want displayed on each screen including choosing the same background.

MacBook Pro detects external monitor but shows black screen
This most likely means the Mac is outputting a video mode that the screen can't display. Try reducing the resolution and Refresh Rate (in System Preferences -> Display ) until you get something on the screen, then work your way up the list again.

Dec 6, 2021 · So far it seems there's no solution to the problem (and I did try!). 1 - Start the program. BetterDummy icon will show up on the top bar. 2 - Click to BetterDummy icon. Then create a new dummy that fits to your external monitor's screen ratio. It is most probably 16:9. 3 - Go to "System Preferences" -> "Displays" -> "Display Settings".
